What Can You Expect?
What’s In a Session?
During a training session, we will enter the dōjō, getting ourselves ready. Often bowing in to show respect for the training. This is followed by a warm-up session taking the form of physical fitness exercises using calisthenic ideas. Finally, the majority of the session is taken up by training in the kata of the Ryūha; based on the theme of the month, and topic of the night.
At the end, we also bow out again to close off the training session, as appropriate to a traditional Japanese martial art.

Monthly Themes:
Each month we focus on a different theme. This could be a specific Ryūha, a particular idea/theme, or a specific level within a Ryūha. All of which is related back to our syllabus for helping all learners to develop ready for their gradings. Find out Here.
For more information check out the Blog section.
Monthly Plan
Each month we follow a loose plan so you can know what is coming up (roughly) week to week.
First Week of the Month:
This is always a Kihon (fundamentals) week. During this session we will look at the fundamental skills of the Bujinkan organisation as well as the individual Ryūha that we are focusing on during that month.
Final Week of the Month:
Every month we always spend the last week of the month focusing and working on the Buki (weapons) of the Bujinkan organisation.
Every Other Week of the Month:
For each of the other weeks of the month, either two or three, we focus on the theme of the month.
Ranks and Gradings
As with all martial arts, the Bujinkan Budō Taijutsu organisation awards grades for the learners who participate within the organisation.
These grades are awarded through Kyū and Dan ranks, via assessment linked to the syllabus used in the Kaeru Dōjō (and the wider Mahoutsukai Dōjō). In the dōjō, and the Bujinkan organisation as a whole, “rank” and “grade” are used interchangably.
Official Rank:
In the Bujinkan, no rank is official until it has been sent off for and acknowledged by the Bujinkan Hombu Dōjō in Japan. When learners are graded in the Kaeru Dōjō they are given the option to send off for official ranking certificates from Japan.
Dōjō Rank:
If a rank is not officially recognised by the Bujinkan Hombu Dōjō via a certificate from Japan then it is only Dōjō rank. This means that it holds no meaning outside of the Dōjō in which it was awarded.
